Where Oh Where Can I find an Azzip Pizza?
In case you were not aware of my long lost love, Azzip Pizza, here is a little background information. Azzip Pizza opened its first location to serve pizza on February 15th, 2014 in Evansville, Indiana. This is where the founder, Brad Niemeier began his journey. I bet he had no idea the impact his pizza would have on communities across the states.
Azzip Pizza serves personal sized pizzas. You can either order a 6 inch or an 11 inch pizza. If you want to be in with the cool kids, you would call the 6 inch a “little” and an 11 inch a “big”. Those are the terms to know before entering into their restaurant. My favorite pizza of all time is one I created myself. All sauces are homemade which makes this ten times better. My pizza would include: half of the pizza with ranch and barbecue sauce and then the other half of the pizza having pesto and garlic butter sauce. Then I could include chicken and cheese all over the entire pizza. YUM! Nothing like getting the best of both worlds!
Shortly after I found out that Azzip Pizza would be opening yet another location, I was ecstatic. I NEEDED to find out where! Crossing my fingers that it was somewhere back in Illinois since closing their Champaign location, I was wrong. However, I had not yet had it in such a long time that I thought, what better way to get it again than at their grand opening of a new location? Therefore, I made the drive all the way to their grand opening in Lafayette, Indiana. It was about three hours from me. I decided to take my little sister with me. Although, I could not leave home without my new puppy. That would be too long in the cage. So the three of us packed into the car and drove the three hours.
Meanwhile, I called up some friends from Champaign, IL at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and asked them if they would like to meet me. Whenever I want to go to Azzip Pizza, they always come running. Of course it was a YES! My college roommate, her boyfriend and her sister also met us in Indiana for lunch. Am I crazy or am I crazy?! They drove about an hour and a half each way.
Upon arriving, the first thing I noticed was that the place was beautiful! How could you not love some fresh stone with some deliciously smelling pizza seeping through the doors. I was more than excited to arrive since Azzip Pizza feels like family to me. I have known them and spent countless of dollars there while I spent my time on campus in Champaign. I constantly am tweeting them and what is really cool about them is that they tweet you back! Name another pizza place that will give a zip about you. I’ll wait.
After standing in the long line wrapped around the inside of the building and through the door, we finally received our pizza. Not only did we get one pizza but we left with eight pizzas. One of the workers was kind enough to half cook the crust for me so that it would be easier for me to cook to perfection once I arrived home for dinner. I could honestly eat that pizza everyday, I wish they delivered.
What a day. Finally, we headed back home. During the ride home, my sister shared with me that she had never had Azzip Pizza before. I almost lost my mind. In fact, I feel bad for people who have yet to try Azzip pizza more than like fifty times! How could I let her down like that!? Two years in Champaign and whenever she came to visit we never made a trip there. Shame on me! Anyways, I am glad she got to enjoy the freshness of this amazing pizza. Better yet, she had asked me the very next day to go back next weekend.
Three hours may not be the closest, but damn it was worth it! Thank you, Azzip Pizza. It’s never a good bye but rather a see you later. If you want to keep up with all things Azzip Pizza you can find them at: @AzzipTweets
